Makoni South MP in court

to have confessed to Chibayambuya that he killed the former MP for the area, John Nyamande, in 2009.
He appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe yesterday charged with two counts of threats to commit murder.
As part of his bail conditions, Muchauraya was ordered to continue residing at his given address and not to interfere with witnesses until the matter is finalised.
His trial date has been set for April 23.

Mr Tonderai Bhatasara of Mupanga, Bhatasara Attorneys is representing him.
Appearing for the State Mr Nyikadzino Machingura alleged that on February 25 around 1pm, Chibayambuya received a phone call from a mobile number 0772924189 and the caller identified himself as “Honourable Member of Parliament Pishai”.

It is alleged that Muchauraya questioned Chibayambuya about people who were distributing Nyarota’s fliers denouncing him.
Chibayambuya told him that she had no knowledge of that, resulting in Muchauraya ordering her to make inquiries.

During the conversation, it is alleged that Muchauraya became abusive and started insulting and threatening Chibayambuya saying: “Iyi ihondo yatotanga, tsvakurudzai vakakanda mapepa aindituka. Munoziva here kuti John Nyamande tisu takamuuraya?

“Anhu anopera kutsvira mudzimba ndinobva kuChipinge mishonga yese ndinoiziya. Ndinouraya.” (This is a war which you have started. I want you to find out who distributed those papers which were denouncing me. Do you know that we killed John Nyamande? I want to warn you that we are going to burn houses belonging to some people. I hail from Chipinge. There is juju there. I am a killer).

It is alleged Chibayambuya reported the matter to the party’s district coordinator for Makoni South Mr Godfrey Sanhanga.
On the second count, it is alleged that on February 28 Muchauraya phoned Nyarota and threatened him with death.

It is alleged he said to him: “Uri benzi. Uri zibenzi. Uri kutuma anhu ako kwendiri, asi uchafa. Ndinokuuraya. Ndinouraya inini. Anondiziya anoziya kuti ndinouraya’. (You are a fool, you are a big fool, you are sending your people to me but let me warn you that I will kill you. Those who know me know that I kill).”

It is the State’s case that Muchauraya then hung up, but Nyarota had identified him through his Chindau accent since they used to communicate.
Nyarota, it is alleged, tried to contact Muchauraya on the mobile number he had used, but he did not pick up the phone.
A report was made to the police leading to Muchauraya’s arrest.
