“I was just very happy to compete with the guys and share this great moment of competing and having fun together,” Makusha said.
Makusha and Dzingai actually make their home in Tallahassee. They spend their off-season training at the Mike Long Track.
“I’ve been training here for 10 years so it’s always nice to be here training with guys like Ngoni and also racing the current FSU guys, so this is home for me,” Dzingai said.
Makusha won the the Bowerman Award this past December. It’s the sport’s highest honour in the United States.
He decided to turn professional last season after finishing a stellar junior season. But the morals and ethic he learned at FSU has never left him.
“That’s what I learned from FSU that you have to take advantage of every moment and shine,” Makusha said.
The FSU Relays gave everybody a chance to shine, including those with one last run in them. “This is probably my last year running and I want to go out on a high note,” Dzingai said. — WCTV.TV.
