Makusha geared up for new challenge

OLYMPIAN Ngoni Makusha says he is ready for a new challenge a month after competing in the Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan.

The sprinter failed to progress to the semi-finals in the men’s 100m in the Tokyo Games after finishing seventh in the second heat after winning his first heat in a time of 10.32 seconds.

The 27-year-old immediately took a break after being eliminated from the Olympics and only resumed training at the Sports Science Lab at the Chinhoyi University of Technology last Friday.

“It’s good to be back after taking a break. I’m back in the gym and looking forward to new challenges,” said Makusha.

The sprinter says he used his stay in Tokyo to create contacts and new friends with the aim of embarking on exchange programmes as he works on qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in France.

At present the sprinter is working on qualifying for the 2022 World Athletics Championships.

The 19th edition of the World Athletics Championships will be held in Eugene, Oregon in the United States.

The games had originally been scheduled for August 6-15 this year but were postponed due to the Olympic Games. -@ZililoR
