Malajila ends year on high note

Malajila who turns out for Maritzburg United, has eight goals, one shy of the leading duo of Bernard Parker of Kaizer Chiefs and Katlego Mashego of Moroka Swallows who both scored a goal each in their last matches before the break, as did Malajila.

Five of Malajila’s goals came in November, starting with a brace against Bloemfontein Celtic in the 2-1 win for Maritzburg.

He was on target again when they demolished Moroka  Swallows 3-1 and was on target with a pile driver against champions, Orlando Pirates though they lost that match 1-2.

On Tuesday, Malajila cancelled a 13th minute penalty goal by Senegalese Mame Niang for Pretoria University as Maritzburg United held Washington Arubi’s Pretoria University to a 1-1 draw. Malajila scored from the spot 10 minutes before the breather, beating his former Dynamos teammate, Arubi in the process. While Malajila was having a brilliant year end, it was a completely different story for another former Highlanders star, Tapuwa Kapini who plays for AmaZulu. He was in goal as they faced table toppers Kaizer Chiefs and had no answer to the 36th minute strike from fellow Zimbabwean Matthew Rusike and another one from Bafana Bafana top striker Parker eight minutes before time. Parker had come in for Rusike just before the hour mark.  To cap a miserable afternoon for the former charismatic Highlanders captain, he received a yellow card in the 68th minute.  For Kapini, it was probably the first time in his long and colourful career that a team he plays for ends the year rooted at the bottom of the log standings.

AmaKhosi’s Kingstone Nkhata and Lloyd Zvasiya were introduced in the 78th and 88th minutes for Simphiwe Tshabalala and Majoro respectively.

Former Caps United captain Gilbert Mapemba played the whole match for Moroka Swallows as they beat third placed Platinum Stars 2-0.

Things do not seem to be going so well for Khama Billiat and Tafadzwa Rusike’s Ajax Cape Town as they lost yet another match. They went down 1-2 to SuperSport United, a result that saw them ending the season third from the bottom.

Warriors skipper Esrom Nyandoro played his first match for Mamelodi Sundowns since former Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane took over at the Brazilians following a string of poor and embarrassing results for the mega rich club.

He and Method Mwanjali were in the thick of things as they held an unpredictable Chippa United to a 1-1 draw. Nyandoro had several chances at goal.
