The two-member delegation from Rainbow Century SDN BHD led by the Charge de Affairs at the Malaysian embassy in Zimbabwe Mr Mohamad Nizan Mohamad yesterday paid a courtesy call on Acting President John Nkomo at his Munhumutapa offices.
“The reason for the visit was for the delegation to see their operations here in farming and mining,” Mr Moha-mad said. “They have some prospecting going on and they want to see how we can work with Government.”
The company has a banana plantation in Manicaland, but its hectarage was reduced during the land reform programme and Mr Mohamad said the company was exploring ways to lease land.
“We want the Government to help us lease land so that the company can expand their operations. On mining we want the technicalities to be speeded up, so that they can start the mining,” he said.
The company has been prospecting for gold in Bindura and is awaiting approval from the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development to commence operations.
Rainbow Century director Mr Peter Lee Siew Choong, said; “We have come to seek guidance and how to achieve a win-win situation.”
Earlier Acting President Nkomo met the new Indian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Jeitendra Kumar and discussed issues of mutual concern to the two countries. They explored ways to strengthen relations in information communication technology and education.
