South Africa gospel diva Rebecca Malope’s show which was scheduled for tomorrow at Glamis Arena has been cancelled under unclear circumstances.
One of the event organisers, Olga Grigorova, from South African company Sonic Cities Entertainment said they had not permanently cancelled the show but postponed it due to permit issues.
“Rebbecca Malope’s show has been postponed not cancelled due to issues to do with licensing. We had not finalised some issues with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe.
“We want to take this opportunity to apologise to our Zimbabwean fans for the inconvenience caused but at the same time we want to assure them that we are hoping to bring her at the next available opportunity,” said Grigorova.
However, NACZ communications and marketing officer Catherine Mthombeni said they had no role in the cancellation of the show.
“We are not the ones who cancelled the show. What happened is that we cleared Rebecca’s show under Davies Events because they are the ones who approached us for the show.
“When their posters (of the show) came out Davies Events were not on the posters.
The show was under Praise Concert. We then approached Davies Events asking them about the issue because Praise Concert is not registered with us. It was just a concern that we raised.
“After that we received a letter yesterday (Wednesday) telling us that they have cancelled the show due to some logistics they are currently working on,” she said.
Davies Events were working in conjunction with Sonic Cities Entertainment of South Africa as the organisers of the show. Efforts to get comment from Davies Events were fruitless yesterday.
Malope was supposed to share the stage with the United Family International Church Choir and Sebastian Magacha at a family show dubbed “The Praise Concert”.
