MASIMBA Mambare’s planned move to Dynamos appeared to hit the buffers last night after it emerged his agent had written to Zifa asking the football governing body to stop the transfer.
The champions announced on Monday that Mambare had signed a three-year contract, snubbing a new deal offered by Highlanders.
Dynamos also confirmed they had registered the attacking midfielder for their Caf Champions League campaign.
But Chronicle Sport understands that Zifa were contacted by a football agent claiming to represent the player, insisting that he had exclusive control of the player’s movements.
The agent insists in the letter, said a Zifa source, that Mambare is “clubless” after his contract with Highlanders expired on December 31.
The Zifa official, who spoke on condition he was not named because he was not cleared to talk to the media, added:
“The agent insists that Mambare’s purported move is illegal and wants to stop the whole process.
“He also maintains that Highlanders should have been given the right to first refusal because his contract with Highlanders has a clause that says it is renewable.”
Mambare arrived at Highlanders from Motor Action in 2012 with agent, Omega Sibanda.
Sibanda’s contract with the player is believed to run until the end of 2014.
Last night, it was unclear if Sibanda was the agent in question, with Zifa CEO Jonathan Mashingaidze only prepared to say: “I can confirm that Zifa has been asked to look into a dispute between Masimba Mambare and Dynamos on one hand, and a player agent.
“This will be handled like any other complaint and you will be advised of the outcome.”
