BLACK Mambas coach Thulani Sibanda believes there is still a lot of work to be done for his team to maintain consistency in their World Navi Northern Region Division One soccer league campaign as they approach the mid-season break.
Black Mambas returned to their winning ways when they beat Lake Harvest 3-1 on Saturday at Morris Depot. They had lost their last game against Starbill 2-3 before taking on Lake Harvest over the weekend.
This was Sibanda’s third game in charge since taking over from John “Toto” Ncube as the head coach of Mambas and the former Plumtree Chiefs mentor feels there’s still a lot of work to be done by his side as they seek to improve their performance in the Northern Region competition.
He added that he is still assessing his players’ performances.
“At the moment, we are taking each game as it comes, we are just trying to improve and just check whether the guys are responding to our training drills. It’s too early to say that in three weeks we have done something significant.
“We just want to improve from the position we are in right now. Maybe (we will) try to rise a bit and get a winning formula,” said Sibanda.
Sibanda, however, hailed his side for picking themselves up from a defeat and overturning the tables in their favour.
“I think we showed a lot of spirit in terms of fighting. We got our chances and used them, so it’s a positive thing on our side,” said Sibanda.
Honey Chimutimunzeve scored a brace for Mambas while Paul Marazanye weighed in with a goal to make it three.
Their colleagues ZRP Morris also found their winning ways when they won 2-0 against Royal Classic, who have become a punching bag for everyone, at Tsungubvi.
ZRP Morris have been struggling of late and had dropped to 16th position on the log tables, triggering some changes at the team that saw former Mambas coach Ncube taking over from Martin Bonongwe as head coach while the latter is now the assistant coach.
A win over the weekend was what they needed to move three places up the ladder and will be hoping for another positive result this weekend.
