Mampi fails to impress at gig

included rising dancehall chanter Shinsoman.
The Zambian singer who is known for her raunchy dances failed to wow the crowd after she was slotted in as the top attraction at the Independence celebration gig organised by the Zimbabwe Youth Council at Rainbow Towers Gardens on Independence eve.
“I am excited to be in Zimbabwe. This is my second home,” Mampi said.

The gig was marred by a poor PA system and technical glitches that resulted in a late start.  Suluman Chimbetu left the stage prematurely as he had to rush to Jazz 105 where he was booked for another show. Another disappointing factor was that the stage was only erected while the fans waited. Some rowdy youths took advantage of the absence of the police and harassed Mampi’s dancers.  As if that was not enough, organisers failed to provide ablution facilities at the venue.  However, Mampi appeared unfazed while local artistes vented their anger on the sound engineer.  Jah Prayzah spent more than 20 minutes on sound check.

Taurai Mandebvu had to repeat the same song more than four times after persistent technical glitches. After his performance, the “Better Man,” could not hide his frustration.
“I wanted to impress Minister (Saviour) Kasukuwere who was part of the crowd, but I couldn’t because of the sound system and intermittent breaks. I am so disappointed,” he said.
Roki, who many thought would ignite the show was not at his usual best and chose to play songs from international artistes and fellow urban groovers.
