A 24-year-old man from Bulawayo has been sentenced to nine months in prison for sexually violating a 16-year-old girl between March to July this year.
Mthulisi Nyathi of Magwegwe suburb pleaded guilty to the charge of having sexual intercourse with a minor when he appeared before Western Commonage magistrate, Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube.
He was initially sentenced to 15 months in prison, with six months suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar offence during that period.
The remaining nine months are effective.
Prosecutor, Mr Tafara Dzimbanhete, told the court that the accused person was the ‘boyfriend’ to the victim, who could not be named for ethical reasons.
He said sometime between March to July this year, the accused person invited the juvenile to his place of residence where he had sexual intercourse with her without protection on two different occasions.
The court heard that the matter came to light after the complainant’s father discovered that the two were having an affair.
A police report was made leading to the arrest of the accused person and the complainant was referred to hospital for medical examination, said Mr Dzimbanhete.
