THREE suspects who are accused of stabbing another man five times and leaving the knife stuck on his head have appeared in court.
Edgar Mqondisi Sebele, Munashe Sibanda and their accomplice only identified as Gee appeared before West-ern Commonage Provincial Magistrate Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube charged with murder.
They were not asked to plead and were remanded in custody to 8 October.
The State case as presented by the prosecutor is that on 30 April at around midnight at Amarula Sports Bar in Bulawayo’s Emganwini suburb, Sunboy Ncube (26) was drinking beer with his friend Mncedisi Dube (33) when Ncube went outside the bar and found the three accused persons playing cards in front of a supermarket and he joined them.
The court heard that Ncube started gambling with Sebele and won a bet, but Sebele refused to pay him.
Ncube went inside Amarula Sports Bar and told his friend Mncedisi Dube who intervened and asked Sebele why he was refusing to pay Ncube his cash.
The State alleges that Sebele told Mncedisi that they had not yet finished playing since he had placed his cell-phone on bet instead of cash.
Sebele continued gambling with Ncube while Mncedisi went back inside the bar.
About five minutes later, a misunderstanding ensued where Sibanda and Gee allegedly grabbed Ncube by his jersey while Sebele grabbed him by the collar.
Mncedisi peeped through the window while drinking beer and saw Ncube being manhandled.
It was the State case that he then rushed to the scene and pleaded with the three accused persons not to as-sault him.
The court heard that at that time Sebele stabbed Ncube five times and left the knife stuck on the left side of the head after which he assisted him to lie on the ground from where he removed the knife and fled the scene.
Ncube was ferried to United Bulawayo Hospitals by a community member.
He later died on 29 May from the injuries sustained after the attack while admitted at Mpilo Central Hospital.
A post-mortem established the cause of death as septic shock, brain and left eye infection and severe head and left eye trauma due to stab wounds.
Detectives from Bulawayo’s Homicide section conducted investigations leading to the arrest of Sebele and his co-accused.
On 4 August 2026 Sebele led police officers to his rural home where a knife, which was allegedly used to mur-der Ncube was recovered in his bedroom inside a black bag.
He also voluntarily made indications at the crime scene and a sketch map was drawn by detectives, which will be produced as an exhibit.
