A 44-year-old man from Mhangura, Mashonaland West, allegedly raped his friend’s daughter on multiple occasions, threatening to kill her if she spoke out.

In a statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said, “Allegations are that, sometime in July 2024, the complainant (11), who was in the garden, was approached by the accused person who came from his garden, which is on the opposite side of a stream. The accused person suddenly grabbed her and forcibly removed her panty before forcing her to the ground and raping her once. He threatened to kill her if she revealed the matter to anyone. The accused person raped the complainant two more times on different occasions at the same place. Sometime later, he visited the complainant’s father, who is his friend. He later pretended to have left and hid near the complainant’s homestead, waiting for her parents to retire to bed. When the complainant’s parents retired to bed, the accused person sneaked back into the kitchen where the complainant was sleeping. He sneaked into the complainant’s blankets and raped her once. The accused person raped the complainant two more times after that incident when she was sent to his homestead by her parents.”

The victim stated that the accused raped her multiple times. This led to a police report and his subsequent arrest, said the NPAZ.
