Man (50) rapes niece (16)

A 50-YEAR-old man was remanded in custody at the Chegutu Magistrate’s courts for allegedly raping his 16-year-old niece.

In a statement, The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said the man raped the complainant on 8 February 2024 after he asked her to fetch his socks from his bedroom. The accused followed her and pushed her from behind knocking her to the floor before raping her.

A relative who was present when the incident occurred reported the matter to the accused’s wife who ignored the issue.

“The complainant told her mother who was in Rusape about the issue over the phone and the mother reported the incident to ZRP Rusape who liaised with the ZRP in Chegutu leading to the accused person’s arrest.”

“The accused person was remanded in custody to the 27th of March 2024.”

“The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe would like to urge members of the public to report all sexual offenses involving minors regardless of the circumstances,” reads the statement.
