Victoria Junior School is the Masvingo Province 2024 winner of the Heritage Quiz Competition.
Hwiru Primary School from Gutu District came second and Mandadzaka Primary School from Bikita District came third
The competition, conducted by the National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe (NMMZ) reached the Provincial level on 8 March.
For primary schools, it started at cluster level whereby 173 schools around the province participated.
On 23 February cluster winners met at the district level to come up with seven schools that represented the seven Districts of Masvingo in Zaka on 8 March 2024.
Victoria Junior Primary School will battle it out with nine schools from the country’s provinces at the National finals to be held in Gweru on 18 May 2024.
Last year Hellen Macghie scooped the first prize at the national finals which were held in Bulawayo.
The Official sponsors of the quiz competitions, the N. Richards Group of Companies donated US$600 prize money for the participants in Masvingo.
Victoria Junior quiz participants walked away with US$150 and a shield from NMMZ while Hwiru Primary School from Gutu District which came second got a floating trophy and US$120. Other sponsors for this event included Heritage Bookshop, AFC and Gain Supermarket Jerera branch.
The Director of NMMZ Mr Lovemore Mandima highlighted the importance of the Heritage Quiz Competitions to the school curriculum programme.
“The quiz competitions started in 1993 and ever since they have gained momentum in primary schools heritage education system.” said Mr Mandima. He encouraged the schools to support Victoria Junior School to win the national championship.
