A 68-year-old Gwanda man has been arrested for stealing a 200ml bottle of an alcoholic beverage, Skippers from OK Supermarket in Gwanda worth $2.

Bernard Dube of Marriage suburb was convicted on his own plea of guilty to theft by Gwanda magistrate, Miss Lerato Nyathi last week.

He was sentenced to three months imprisonment which were wholly suspended on condition he does not commit a similar offence within the next three years.

Prosecuting, Mr Takunda Mafudze said Dube stole the bottle of “hot stuff” and hid it in his pocket.

“On 5 November around 2pm, Dube went into OK Gwanda branch and took a 200ml bottle of Skippers and put it in his pocket.

“He went past the till point without paying for it and proceeded to the exit point. A security guard who was standing by the door became suspicious and searched Dube, resulting in the recovery of the booze,’’ he said.

Mr Mafudze said Dube, upon realising he had been caught opened the bottle and spilt some of the contents on the floor in a bid to destroy evidence.

Dube was apprehended and taken to the police station. Mr Mafudze said the stolen booze is valued at $2.
