A 78-year-old man from Shamhuyenhanzva Village in Bindura will spend the next 15 years in jail after being convicted of
raping his mentally unstable 15-year-old daughter.
The man pleaded not guilty when he appeared before regional magistrate Mr Amos Mbobo but was convicted after a full trial.
The prosecutor, Mrs Carol Mupazviriwo, told the court that the complainant was in Grade 4.
Mrs Mupazviriwo said sometime in April last year, the man took advantage of his wife’s absence and raped his daughter.
He threatened to crush her head with a brick if she ever told her mother about the sexual abuse.
The minor later told other children what had happened to her and the news spread.
Members of the community tipped off the police, leading to the man’s arrest.
