A BULAWAYO man spent the night alone at Zothile Sports Bar in Entumbane after he was accidentally locked in by a security guard. Khulani Ndlovu, 34, appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Tancy Dube charged with theft after he allegedly helped himself to different brands of alcohol while inside. Prosecuting, Frank Ncube told how on June 9 around 11PM, a drunken Ndlovu remained inside when Munetsi Musinde, the security guard, locked the shop. “The accused was drunk when he was locked in the bar and he spent the whole night stuck and had no way out,” said Ncube.

“Ndlovu unlawfully took 8x200ml of Viceroy, 7×20 packs of Everest knowing that Musinde is entitled to the property.”
Ncube said Ndlovu took advantage of the situation and consumed Pilsner and Viceroy brandy worth $61.

Ndlovu pleaded not guilty to the charge telling the court he did not know how he got in the bar.
“I don’t know how I got in the bar. I was drunk and if I had broken in I would have escaped in the same way I got in,” he said.

The matter came to light when Musinde got a tip-off the following morning that someone was in the bar.
He rushed to the bar and found Ndlovu drunk inside and reported the matter to the police who arrested Ndlovu.

Ndlovu was remanded on free bail to June 18.
