A MAN, who already had a court order to stop assaulting his mother, is back in court facing allegations of beating up his mom and threatening to kill her.
Ivor Muwati, 35, appeared before Harare magistrate, Tapiwa Kuhudzai, charged with violating a protection order.
The State alleges that on Sunday, Muwati was at his mother’s Hatcliffe home when an altercation arose over a cellphone belonging to his niece.
It is alleged that Muwati had taken the cellphone and refused to hand it over when his mother asked him to return it to its owner.
During the ensuing argument, Muwati allegedly became violent and assaulted his mother.
He allegedly went on to grab her by the neck and threatened to kill her.
The State alleges that Muwati was restrained by his 27-year-old aunt and this gave his mother an opportunity to escape.
The incident occurred despite a protection order issued by the Magistrates’ Court on May 21 this year, which prohibited Muwati from insulting, harassing or threatening his mother, destroying property and entering her home.
The State says his alleged conduct therefore constituted a violation of that order.
His mother was not medically examined following the alleged assault.
