The shoot-out also claimed the life of his 54-year-old mother-in-law in Mtetengwe area under Chief Stauze yesterday.

Police officer commanding Beitbridge district Chief Superintendent Lawrence Chinhengo confirmed the arrest of Tinandava Muleya following the shooting incident.

He identified the deceased as Muleya’s wife Hilda and his mother-in-law Joice Maphosa.
He said Muleya was now assisting police with investigations.

“According to preliminary investigations the suspect and his wife were in the country for the festive season.

“They then had a domestic dispute and the wife fled their homestead and sought refuge at her parents’ homestead in the same village.”

He said police suspected that Muleya brought the gun from South Africa.
“Muleya followed his wife and shot both women in the forehead and they died instantly.”
Chief Supt Chinhengo said Muleya’s father-in-law disarmed the suspect.

“Realising that he had been overpowered he went back to his homestead where he took his two children and drove to his brother’s homestead in the same village.”

He said Muleya was handed over to police at Tongwe Police Post.
Chief Supt Chinhengo said police recovered four spent cartridges and the gun from the crime scene.
