Man arrested for assaulting daughter (5)

A BULAWAYO man was fined $500 for assaulting his five-year-old daughter after he had a misunderstanding with his divorced wife, the mother of the child.

Thabani Mlalazi (26) of St Peter’s Village assaulted Siphiwe Mlalazi who is doing her ECD at St Peter’s Primary School. The court heard that Mlalazi was having a dispute with his ex-wife but the dispute and its cause was not revealed in court. Mlalazi pleaded guilty to assault before Western Commonage magistrate Ms Gladmore Mushove.

He was fined $500 or  to serve 30 days in prison if he fails to pay the fine. The magistrate warned him to solve parental disputes amicably without involving the children. Prosecuting, Mr Stewart Madzore said on 24 February,  Mlalazi arrived home and started shouting at his daughter.

“He kicked the complainant once on the left thigh in the presence of her grandparents,” said Mr Madzore. The daughter did not sustain any injuries but the matter was reported to the police leading to Malalazi’s arrest. —Mthabisi Tshuma
