A man has been arrested for allegedly forging academic certificates that earned him a place at a nursing school in Bulawayo after a routine verification process.
Jonathan Mukwenha (20), who lives in Makondo Extension, Chiredzi, has been arrested in connection with a forgery case related to his enrolment as a student nurse at a local School of Nursing.
In a statement, Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, said the incident occurred on 23 June at around 10AM.
“During a routine verification process, the nursing school’s staff was checking the certificates of all student nurses enrolled for the May 2025 intake. They used the Confirmation of Result Forms received from the Zimbabwe School Examination Council (ZIMSEC) in Harare for this verification,” said Inspector Msebele.
She said it was during this process that staff discovered Mukwenha had applied to the nursing programme using a fraudulent ZIMSEC General Ordinary Level Certificate from the November 2022 examinations, which he had claimed reflected passing grades in six subjects.
“However, the Confirmation of Result Form obtained from ZIMSEC revealed that Mukwenha had actually sat for the November 2022 exams as a private candidate and had only passed two out of the six subjects,” said Inspector Msebele.
She said upon confirming the discrepancies, the school staff reported the incident to the police, leading to Mukwenha’s arrest.
Inspector Msebele commended what she called “the vigilance of the school staff for uncovering this fraudulent behaviour.”
She urged people to refrain from using fake documents, emphasising the consequences of such actions.
