A 20-YEAR-OLD man from Tsholotsho district in Matabeleland North Province has appeared in court facing allegations of stabbing his uncle four times with a kitchen knife.
Courage Nkomo appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Benhilda Chiwundura facing one count of attempted murder.
He pleaded not guilty, and the matter was remanded to 30 December for trial.
In his defence, Courage told the court that his uncle had attacked him first by punching him in the face.
He further told the court that there had been bad blood between the two of them as his uncle was always accusing him of having stolen his cellphone, which he himself had misplaced.
Allegations are that on 23 November 2024, at Greenside Shopping Centre, Mathetshaneni Line, the complainant, Hlukuluzani Nkomo, and the accused were drinking alcohol among other people.

It was heard that the accused became drunk and started insulting people who were at the shopping centre.
The complainant, seeing the accused’s behaviour, approached him and stopped him from insulting other people.
The court heard that Courage became angry and asked the complainant why he was always persecuting him. The complainant then left the accused, went into one of the shops, and bought groceries.
It was heard that while the complainant was on his way home, the accused followed him, holding a kitchen knife he had been given by his friend, and stabbed him once on the stomach, once on the collarbone, and twice on the hand.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused.
