A 54-YEAR-OLD man from Old Nic Mine in Bulawayo was arrested for verbally abusing his wife. For the offence Mathias Munsaka appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Maxwell Ncube charged with emotional abuse as defined in Section 3 (1) (b) as read with Section 4 of the Domestic Violence Act Chapter 5:16.

Munsaka pleaded guilty to the charge but his wife however, intervened and withdrew the charges. She argued that since he was employed, jail time would likely cost him his job. “I am withdrawing the charges because he needs to go to work and has apologized.

However, I have also applied for a protection order to ensure my safety in this relationship,” her affidavit reads in part. The court heard that on 30 June at around 9pm Munsaka went home drunk and upon arrival he started insulting his wife with vulgar language.

He suspected her of having affairs with other men in the compound. Fearing for her safety after the verbal abuse, Moyo reported the matter to the police, leading to her husband’s arrest.
