A Harare man allegedly attacked Masvingo South legislator Tanatsiwa Mukombori and damaged his vehicle after suspecting him of having an affair with his wife.

The incident occurred at Cresta Oasis Hotel on May 20, leaving a trail of violence and property damage.

Wilson Mutabwani (38) of Braeside, appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Ruth Moyo last Friday facing charges of assault and malicious damage to property.

He was released on US$200 bail and is scheduled to return to court on June 16.

According to prosecutor Mr Takudzwa Jambawu, the incident began when Mutabwani went to Cresta Oasis Hotel for a business meeting with a client.

The meeting ended at around 8:30 pm and Mutabwani returned to the hotel car park intending to head home.

To his shock, Mutabwani spotted his wife, Rejoice Govera’s, white Nissan X-Trail parked in the lot.

He became suspicious and inquired about the vehicle from a security guard, who informed him it had been left by a woman who had boarded a Ford Ranger Raptor double cab that had left the premises.

Mutabwani deflated the tyres of the Nissan X-Trail and decided to wait for the Ford Ranger Raptor to return.

At around 8:45 pm, the complainant, Mukombori, arrived in the car park driving a Ford Ranger Raptor.

He parked his vehicle near the Nissan X-Trail. Mutabwani, who had been lying in wait, confronted the pair.

He approached the vehicle, knocked on the driver’s window, and brandished a blow F92 toy pistol, which he pointed at Mukombori.

He then ordered Mukombori to exit the car. When Mukombori complied, Mutabwani allegedly began assaulting him with his hands and feet, accusing him of being romantically involved with his wife.

The attack escalated when Mutabwani picked up a stone and struck the windscreen of Mukombori’s vehicle twice, shattering it.

As the commotion unfolded, Govera reportedly entered her husband’s car, and the couple drove off together, leaving the complainant injured and stranded at the scene.

Mukombori sustained minor injuries and sought medical attention. He then reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused person.
