Man assaults wife for misplacing mbanje

A 30-year-old Mzilikazi man was ordered to pay a $30 000 fine when he appeared in court for assaulting his wife for misplacing his mbanje.

Mduduzi Mpofu appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Busani Sibanda and was given a five months jail sentence which was suspended for five years on condition he does not commit an offence of a similar nature for which he will be jailed without an option of a fine.

The State case as presented by the prosecutor Mrs Hazel Ncube is that on 25 July 2021, Mpofu got home and asked his wife Pamela Ncube (29) where she had put his mbanje to which Ncube professed ignorance.

This did not go down with Mpofu who dragged his wife from their bed before assaulting her with fists on the head accusing her of having misplaced the illicit drug and not taking interest in helping him look for it. After the ordeal the State through the prosecutor said Ncube did not seek medical attention.
