Washington Nkoma (25) from Bulawayo’s Old Lobengula suburb must have learnt the hard way that a footpath is a no-go area during the night after two robbers who were armed with a machete and a knife attacked him before striping him naked and fleeing with his clothes and cell phone.
Things turned for the worse for Nkoma when he was a few meters from his home in the suburb at around 9 pm when two machete-wielding men pounced on him.
They demanded money from him. But he told them he had no money on him, said a source.
“They throttled him as they punched and kicked him all over the body before they stripped him naked and took his clothes before they fled,” said the source.
Nkoma, according to a source close to the incident, fell unconscious and recovered a few minutes later before walking naked to his home. He wore clothes and went to report the incident at Njube Police Station, leading to the arrest of Itai Tshabalala and his younger brother Panashe.
Bulawayo Police Spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident and said: “I can confirm the incident and I would like to discourage community members from using footpaths during daytime or the night because they would be putting their lives at risk.”
