A WOMAN from Glen View 7 suburb in Harare has approached the Civil Court seeking a protection order against her ex-husband, accusing him of threatening to kill her for divorcing him.
Ms Beatrice Chiyadzwa accused her ex-husband, Mr Naboth Kuchitumu, of stalking and threatening to kill her.
“I divorced him and since then, he has become violent and also hurts me. He is in the habit of stalking and threatening to kill me,” she said.
Ms Chiyadzwa accused Mr Kuchitumu of coming to her workplace in Mbare uninvited and causing disturbances while shouting at her in front of other people.
She claimed that her ex-husband came to her new house, sold her blankets and groceries and left her with nothing.
“He is abusing me only because l divorced him. He told me that l deserved to die unless l went back to him,” she said.
“I decided to come for assistance since my life is now in danger and l cannot be forced to live with someone l do not like.”
She also told the court that Mr Kachitumu also took her bag in front of people, while calling her a prostitute and insulting her mother.
Ms Chiyadzwa almost broke into tears while testifying saying she was not comfortable giving her home address to the court fearing Mr Kuchitumu would come and hurt her.
Mr Kuchitumu denied the allegations saying that he only visited her place because he wanted to check on the children.
“l always want to know how my children are doing and l also wanted her to give me the photocopies of their birth certificates,” he said.
Presiding magistrate Ms Meenal Naratom granted Ms Chiyadzwa the protection order and warned Mr Kuchitumu to refrain from threatening and abusing her.
