A Mutorashanga man has been fined $20 000 for bashing his brother-in-law for buying a radio instead of settling his wife’s lobola.
Trymore Chitsungo,29, appeared before Chinhoyi magistrate Batsiranai Madzingira for bashing his brother-in-law, Godfrey George.
Magistrate Madzingira fined him $20 000 or five months in jail if he does not deposit the money with the Clerk of Court today. Prosecuting, Review Nikisi told the court that on December 4 last year and at Kaspo Bottle Store, Mutorashanga, George, was listening to his radio at the bottle store.
The State said Chitsungo could not stomach seeing George listening to the radio and charged at him.
He questioned George why he chose to buy a portable radio instead of settling his outstanding lobola.
At the height of the argument Chitsungo, took the portable radio and ran with it to his homestead.
George lodged a complaint with the police.
The court heard that on the same day at around 8pm, Chitsungo confronted George demanding to know why he had reported him to the police.
Chitsungo assaulted George with a log and booted feet all over his body, and he sustained injuries.
