A HARARE man was given a thrashing by his son after he refused to return his goblins to a sangoma.
Rufaro Nyamaropa has since applied for a peace order against his son Kelvin at the Harare Civil Court.
Rufaro, who sustained multiple injuries, told the court his son physically abuses him at home.
He claimed Kelvin insults him in public, accusing him of possessing goblins, which he claims are responsible for the deaths in the family.
“I think to clear the air, enough is enough, Kelvin stays at my house and now he has the guts to assault me in my house.
“He accused me of taking his inner garment to a witch doctor, which I never did.
“Last week, he beat me after I refused to go to the so-called prophet with my cultural items which my forefathers gave to me,” said Rufaro.
In response, Kelvin did not oppose his father’s application.
He insisted his father should return the goblins to the sangoma.
“The most painful thing is that my family members are perishing because of his goblins.
“It’s now normal that people are dying regularly in my family and all the prophets say he is behind all this.
“He never denies the fact that he has goblins when prophets ask.
“As family, we suggested that we help him return the goblins but he is refusing,” he said.
Presiding magistrate Sharon Mashavire granted the peace order in Rufaro’s favour.
