A MAN from Nkosikazi area in Inyathi blamed his mother for his erectile problem before bashing her with fists.
Trymore Sibanda (29) accused Bunzima Malandu (53) of rendering his bedroom gun useless through witchcraft.
Sibanda appeared before magistrate on circuit Temba Chimiso facing an assault charge which he pleaded not guilty to but was convicted. He was remanded in custody to 27 September for sentencing.
What made him suspect his mother bewitched him is that his underwear disappeared in July this year when he had visited her and soon after that he became useless.
a�?I was shocked when I tried to sleep with my girlfriend and my penis just couldna��t work,a�? he said in court.
He added that he consulted prophets who told him his mother bewitched him because she didna��t want him to marry.
This raised suspicion because two of his brothers divorced under similar circumstances of erectile dysfunction.
a�?This is troubling me because two of my brothers experienced the same problem. We are now a laughing stock to the community because we fail to perform in the bedroom and we later divorce. What also affects me is that I am a gold panner and I make a lot of money, but when I get it, it just disappears just like that. I have not done a meaningful thing in my life due to imimoya engayetheswa ngumama (a bad spell that was cast on me by my mother),a�?he said.
Malandu denied the accusations saying her son was in the habit of emotionally and physically abusing her.
a�?He is lying! He is fond of insulting me, whenever he is drunk he accuses me of bewitching him before hitting me with fists. I have had enough of his abuse,a�? she said.
