A 32-YEAR-OLD man from Burnside suburb in Bulawayo allegedly ran berserk, pulled his wife’s braids, tripped her to the ground and dragged her to a bus stop after she denied him sex.
Ali Mpofu appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Nomagugu Maphosa facing a charge of physical abuse. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was remanded to Friday for sentencing. When asked by the magistrate why he committed the offence, Mpofu indicated that he was angry.

“I was angry and l did not realise that my anger would lead me to commit such an offence,” he said. The court heard that on 11 September 2024 at around 4pm, Mpofu and his wife Belinda Ngwenya (28) had a misunderstanding over sex.
This was after Ngwenya indicated that they could not perform the act as her brother was present in the house and this angered him. At around 5am, Ngwenya woke up and prepared for work and as she was about to leave the house, Mpofu stopped him and blocked her from going to work.

The victim’s brother intervened and Mpofu let her out of the house. As Ngwenya was approaching the bus stop, Mpofu dragged her with braids and pushed her to the ground. He went on to pull her, but she did not sustain severe injuries. The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Mpofu.
