A man is at loggerheads with his wife whom he is accusing of infecting him with a sexually transmitted infection, the Civil Court heard yesterday. Rudo Mbengo told the court that Taguma Chakanyuka was in the habit of insulting her with obscene words in front of their minor children.

Mbengo was seeking a protection order against Chakanyuka whom she accused of physically and verbally abusing her.

“I have no peace at home because he is always assaulting and insulting me, accusing me of infecting him with an STI,” she said. Mbengo told magistrate Mr Trevor Nyatsanza that Chakanyuka was also accusing her of having an extra-marital affair with her ex-husband.

“I have a child with my ex-husband and each time he calls asking me to come and collect money for the upkeep of his child the respondent starts accusing me of having an extra-marital affair with him.”

She told the court that she felt degraded and embarrassed since Chakanyuka was in the habit of insulting her with obscene words in front of their minor children.

Chakanyuka denied the allegations.

“We are always having problems with my wife because she likes communicating with her ex-husband. I also suspected that she is the one who infected me with an STI but I never physically abused her,” he said.

Chakanyuka claimed he even asked Mbengo to seek a garnishee order so that she could keep a distance away from her ex-husband, but she refused.

Mr Nyatsanza granted the order in Mbengo’s favour which barred Chakanyuka from verbally or physically abusing her.

He also ordered Chakanyuka to keep peace towards Mbengo at all times.
