A 23-YEAR-OLD man is battling for life at United Bulawayo Hospitals after he was assaulted by four men at a beergarden in Magwegwe.
Two of his attackers appeared in court yesterday while the other two are on the run.Tabiso Sikabe was hit by a brick on the head and he sustained serious injuries.
Silvester Phiri, 22, and Brighton Mudenda, 26 appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Sheunesu Matova facing assault charges.
The pair pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded to August 13 on $50 bail each.
They were also ordered to report to the nearest police station once every Friday.
Prosecuting Mufaro Mageza told how Sikabe was assaulted by four men after a misunderstanding.
“On August 2, at around 7PM at Insiza beer- garden in Old Magwegwe, Sikabe met Phiri, Mudenda and other two who are still at large and asked to join their group so that they could drink together.
“The four started assaulting Sikabe with fists for no reason and one of them picked a brick and hit him on the head”, said Mageza.
Phiri and Mudenda were arrested but their accomplices are on the run.
Mudenda pleaded with the magistrate to remand him out of custody saying he would be fired if he fails to report for work.
“Your Worship, please do not send me to jail. I am expected to go to work or I will be fired. I swear I will not run away like the other two men who assaulted the complainant,” he said.
