A HARARE man is battling for life after being stabbed with a broken bottle during a bar brawl in Highfield.

Givemore Tapiwa Zimbodza was at a funeral with his neighbours when one of his friends, Raymond Koshita, went to buy beer at a nearby bar and found the bar lady, only identified as Susan, crying.

Koshita asked Susan why she was crying, but she didn’t respond.

Concerned, Koshita went and informed his friends.

When they returned as a group, Susan did not say anything, but only pointed at Brighton Ncube.

Zimbodza confronted Ncube and asked what he had done to Susan.

Ncube allegedly punched Zimbodza.

And, when he retaliated, Ncube is said to have broken a beer bottle he was holding and stabbed Zimbodza several times on the back of the head and on the face close to his left eye.

Zimbodza was rushed to hospital unconscious.

Ncube appeared before Harare magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa yesterday charged with attempted murder, and was remanded in custody.
