A 40-YEAR-OLD man from Bulawayo has appeared in court for allegedly defying a protection order that restricted him from assaulting his mother.

Keven Chikerema from Nkulumane suburb allegedly assaulted his mother Maria Chikerema despite a protection order issued against him at Western Commonage magistrate court on January 5, 2017.

Keven appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Ms Tancy Dube charged with a single count of violating a court order.

Keven pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody to today for sentencing.

“From the period extending from September 2017 to December 23, 2017 Keven violated the terms and conditions of the protection order by verbally and physically threatening his mother,” said the prosecutor Mrs Esther Sibanda

“The accused would come home drunk and assault the complainant on several occasions in front of his sister Primrose Chikerema.”

Primrose told the court that at one time Keven climbed on top of the roof just to annoy his mother.

“He comes home drunk in the middle of the night and makes noises while we sleep,” she said.

“Sometimes he comes with his friends and they start cooking. This other day he even climbed on top of the roof shouting that the house belonged to him.”
