A MUTARE man who has been married for seven years, but failing to have children is blaming his uncle and aunt for his troubles.
When he appeared before Headman Chigodora recently, 32-year-old Tinashe Mureyani, claimed that his uncle, Joseph Mureyani and aunt, Enisia Mureyani are sorcerers who cursed him and his wife.
Tinashe also blamed Joseph and Enisia for causing other family members’ misfortunes that include singleness and joblessness.
He said for seven years, he had tried everything to conceive, from consulting doctors to visiting traditional healers, but nothing worked.
“After I impregnated my girlfriend in 2016, I married her. She was already six months pregnant, but it was a tale of complications after complications when she moved into the Mureyani family.
“At times, healers that we consulted would tell us that the baby had disappeared. Her stomach would be soft as if she was not pregnant. After a few days, it would become hard again.
“Eventually, she had a miscarriage and since then, we have never conceived again. We have consulted healers who told us that our uncle, Joseph is responsible for all the mishaps that have been happening in our family,” he said.
Tinashe said his father died in 2021, and while he was still alive, there was bad blood between him and his two surviving siblings.
He said his uncle and aunt were jealous of his siblings’ success and wanted to ruin their lives.
“Our sisters are not getting married. When male family members marry, we have trouble conceiving.
“Most of us are jobless, and no one among our uncles is assisting us, a reason why I have brought the matter before this community court,” he said.
Tinashe’s mother, whose name was not disclosed, said when she married into the family, her father-in-law told her that two of his children were evil.
“He did not tell me their names. He told me that they had acquired black magic. Everyone fears these two. They are very evil. They are the only surviving elders in a family that had so many siblings.
“I have since discovered that these were the two evil persons that my late father-in-law was referring to. There have been countless mysterious deaths within the Mureyani family,” she said.
Gogo Mureyani accused her brother-in-law and sister-in-law of incest.
She said they slept together when they were still young to strengthen their evil acts of sorcery.
This infuriated Enisia who hurled insults on Gogo Mureyani, accusing her of bewitching her children for them to remain single.
“You cannot label me a witch when you are the witch. How will your children get married when you have evil spirits following you everywhere.
“You have black cloths that you use, what are they for? Your family possessed goblins, yet you are accusing me of witchcraft,” charged the angry woman.
In his response, Joseph denied the allegations, and called on the feuding family members to consult traditional healers so that he clears his name.
“I did not do anything and my hands are clean. My brother, who fathered these children died in 2021. I have nothing much to say. I want them to join me and other family members to consult traditional healers so that my name is cleared,” he said.
The matter was adjourned to a later date to allow the family to consult spiritual healers.
