Man blows child’s fees on booze

A MAN from Bulawayo has been arraigned for beating up his wife after he blew the money she had given him for their child’s school fees on beer.

Admire Shumba (33) of Emakhandeni suburb staggered home drunk after midnight and assaulted his wife Brenda Ngwenya (30) when she asked him if he had paid the fees.

Shumba pleaded guilty to physical abuse when he appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Lungile Ncube but said he acted in self defence.

“I didn’t assault her using fists. I only grabbed her to stop her from fighting me. She looked angry and violent when I arrived home,” said Shumba.

Mr Ncube fined him $100 or 90 days in prison.

Prosecuting, Mr Kenneth Shava said on Wednesday last week, Ngwenya gave Shumba money to pay for their child’s school fees.

He came back home at around 12 midnight drunk. Ngwenya asked him if he had paid the child’s school fees.

“Shumba assaulted Ngwenya using his fists,” said Mr Shava.

Ngwenya did not seek medical attention as she was not seriously injured. — @YUshamba
