adminCape Town – Pleasure turned to pain for a man who jumped from the second floor of a suspected brothel in the Cape Town CBD – breaking his leg in the process – while apparently trying to escape the authorities during a raid.
The City of Cape Town in a statement said its Vice Squad and Liquor Enforcement Units executed a series of autonomous and joint operations focusing on prostitution and illegal liquor sales last week, resulting in a number of fines and compliance notices being issued.
During collaboration with the Hawks last Wednesday, four women were arrested for prostitution at premises in the central business district.
While the officers made their way through the building, a “client” who was in one of the rooms on the second floor attempted to escape by jumping through the window.
He smashed the window frame and fractured his leg when he landed on the ground and was taken to Groote Schuur Hospital.
“Fortunately for this man, pain and embarrassment are the worst of his woes as current legislation doesn’t provide for a client using the services of a prostitute to be charged unless they are caught in the act,” said mayoral committee member for safety and security JP Smith.
“Had he known that, I imagine he would not have turned stuntman.”
A total of 31 spot fines for solicitation were issued during operations in Brooklyn, Bellville, Macassar and Atlantis, totalling R37,700.
Five compliance notices were also handed to women found “conducting their trade on the streets”. – AFP
