A BULAWAYO man spoiled his Christmas when he was nicked at a truck port while stealing diesel from a parked haulage truck, a magistrate heard.Western Commonage magistrate Temba Chimiso heard how on the night of Christmas Day, Charles Museve, 34, of Nketa 7 suburb in Bulawayo, sneaked into a Ventures Transport truck port situated at Kelvin North industrial area in Bulawayo and drained 210 litres of diesel from a truck which had been parked in the yard.
Prosecuting, Fiona Ncube told the court that Museve strayed into the truck port and found a truck parked in the yard.
After gaining entry into the truck port, Museve first took a fleeting look around the building apparently to make sure that noone was on the lookout, the court heard.
“He then drained 210 litres of diesel from a truck which was parked in the yard. Acting on a tip off, the complainant, Newman Ndlovu rushed to the scene and found Museve still in the act and apprehended him leading to the recovery of 210 litres of diesel worth $300,” said Ncube.
Chimiso convicted Museve on his own plea of guilty to charges of theft and criminal trespass. He was sentenced to 12 months in jail, but he will not see the inside of prison as his sentence was suspended on condition that he performs 210 hours of community service at Nketa Primary School starting Monday.
