Man choked to death

employed in the Masvingo city’s sewage works department, was found dead by a passersby after he slipped into a pool of sewage near Shakashe River in the city.
Acting Masvingo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nkululeko Nduna yesterday said Matipedza’s body was awaiting a postmortem at Masvingo General Hospital.
Asst Insp Nduna said investigations were on going.
He said Matipedza’s body did not have any visible injuries to suspect foul play, adding that his belongings including a cellphone and US$6 cash were found on his corpse.
It is alleged that on the fateful day, Matipedza was drinking beer at Rujeko B Business Centre across Shakashe River.
Later in the night, on his way home, he passed through the sewage works near the river.
He slipped into the sewage in his drunken stupor.
