POLICE have launched a manhunt for a Chipinge man who in a fit of rage allegedly chopped his two children to death with a machete and later attempted to kill his wife.National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba yesterday identified the man as Karukai Matsvase, 23.
“Matsvase murdered his two daughters Delight Baloyi Matsvase, 3, and Agnes Baloyi Matsvase, 4 months, before attacking his wife Beauty Chauke, 22,” said Snr Asst Comm Charamba.

She said the incident occurred on Wednesday at about 1AM. “He first struck Delight on the head and she died on the spot. He then struck Agnes on the head before attacking his wife with the same machete,” said the police spokesperson.

Snr Asst Comm Charamba said Matsvase was sleeping in the bedroom with his family when he suddenly woke up in the middle of the night and took a machete and allegedly committed the heinous act.

“The accused was then disturbed by his elder brother, Watson Matsvase who forced open the door and tried to apprehend him before he escaped,” said Snr Asst Comm Charamba.

She said Matsvase’s wife was admitted to St Peters Hospital and is in a critical condition.
“She sustained deep cuts on the left arm, head and back,” Snr Asst Comm Charamba said.
The bodies of the two children were taken to St Peters Hospital for a post-mortem.

“We are appealing for information that will lead to the arrest of the accused person,” said Snr Asst Comm Charamba.
