Harare magistrate Mrs Evelyn Mashavakure has fined a Harare man $10 000 after she found him guilty of domestic violence.
Tafadzwa Tamangani was convicted after being found guilty of bashing his wife Janet. Mrs Mashavakure ordered Tamangani to pay a $10 000 fine or face being jailed for 30 days.
Three months were also suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
In her submissions during trial, Janet told the court that it was not the first time as Tamangani was in the habit of physically and verbally abusing her. She further told the court that she was granted a protection order against Tamangani after he allegedly pointed a gun at her sometime last year.
She went on submitting that Tamangani was in the habit of coming to her workplace harassing her and carrying out violent acts adding that he has a tendency of beating her in front of their children.
Janet, in her submissions, said in this present case Tamangani violated the protection order which was granted against him showing he did not take the court order seriously.
The court heard that on June 7, 2021 the complainant arrived home from an outing in the company of her four children and discovered that the bedroom was locked when she tried to enter.
It was alleged that upon asking for the keys from Tamangani a misunderstanding ensued.
In the process, the complainant allegedly managed to get the keys and the accused grabbed the complainant by the jacket, pushing her against the wall and dragged her around. It was alleged that as a result of the dragging and pushing the complainant suffered chest and ankle injuries.
Tamangani was represented by Knowledge Maheresera and Edwin Hamunakwadi.
