For bedding a 14-year-old a Mutare man (24) was last week convicted of the offense.

Gilbert Machiri (24) pleaded guilty to sleeping with a 14-year-old minor when he appeared before senior Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura.

He, however, denied having been intimate twice with the minor and said he had slept with her once.

Machiri went on to tell the court that the minor had lured him to sleep with her and even told him that she was no longer a virgin.

“Sometime in July, the minor was coming from Dora heading to her home.

“On her way she met Machiri who then proposed love to her. The minor agreed to the love proposal and they separated.

‘‘On August 1, the minor eloped to Machiri`s home at around 6pm and while she was talking to Machiri her parents arrived.

“She was asked by her mother why she was at Machiri’s place and she replied that she was in love with Machiri and that they had slept together twice,” said Mr Fletcher Karombe appearing for the State.

A report was made to the police leading to Machiri’s arrest. He was remanded out of custody to yesterday for sentencing.
