A HARARE man is demanding DNA tests before he commits to paying maintenance for the upkeep of his child.

Shadreck Panganai was taken to court by his ex-girlfriend, Shorai Hamundikwane, who was seeking $200 000 for child support.

“He ignores my calls and barely comes to see his son, that’s why l dragged him over here.

“Maybe, he might listen to the law.

“I have been paying all the expenses alone but l am no longer employed that’s why l am seeking his help.

“He is talking of maintenance just to delay the payments but all will catch up with him and if we are to come back after tests l will triple the claim,” said Shorai.

Shadreck offered $50 000 instead.

“I pay for the fees and the amount l am offering is for food only and that’s what I can afford sinc the child is almost 18.

“I don’t ignore her, rather she calls at odd times when my wife is around and l think it’s best if we go for DNA tests,” he said.

Magistrate Sharon Mashavira ordered Shadreck to pay $70 000 maintenance.
