A 25-year-old man from Mbizo 9 suburb in Kwekwe died after allegedly ingesting a mining explosive, which detonated in his mouth, causing instant death.
In a statement, acting Midlands Provincial Assistant Inspector Fungai Ngawagare confirmed the tragic incident.
“Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms investigating a suspected suicide case in which a 25-year-old Mbizo man was found dead in his room with his teeth blown out and blood stains were all over,” she said.
Asst Insp Ngawagare said the horrific incident occurred on Independence Day at around midnight at the now deceased’s residence in Mbizo, Kwekwe.
“The now deceased has been identified as Talent Runi,” she said.
“On the day in question, Tinotenda Tsvangira (23) and the now deceased who was his cousin brother arrived in Kwekwe town from their rural home in Gokwe. The two parted ways and Runi went home.”
Asst Insp Ngawagare said at around 4:24 pm, Tsvangira received a call from his aunt in Harare advising him to go home and check on Runi who was said to have promised to take his life.
“Tsvangira rushed home since they resided together and upon arrival, he found all Runi’s doors locked from inside and he gained entry into the room through an open window,” she said.
“He found Runi lying dead on the bed and reported the case to ZRP Mbizo.”
Asst Insp Ngawagare said observations at the scene included blown out blood-stained teeth scattered on the floor, used and unused explosives, igniting cords and a box of matches scattered in the room.
