A KUWADZANA man yesterday collapsed and died while drinking an illicit brew at his friend’s funeral wake.
The sudden death of Nicholas Madondoro, popularly known as Border in the neighbourhood, delayed the burial of his late friend, Kelvin Chidenyika.
Kelvin was reported to have died due to excessive intake of the illicit brew known as kambwa.
He was 36.
Border was reported to have brought five litres of the brew to the funeral wake and was drinking it as a way of bidding farewell to his late friend.
Kuwadzana Ward Councillor, Adonia Shoko, told H-Metro the burial was delayed due to the sudden death of Border.
“We have faced a double tragedy here by the passing on of friends and children of our community,” said Cllr Shoko.
“Their death is bad in the sense that the illicit brew, popularly known as kambwa, is being said to be the cause.

“Border collapsed and died while sitting next to Kevin’s coffin.
“He was drinking the same brew.
“I gave a statement last night warning residents about kambwa and Border brought his brew to the funeral wake.”
He added:
“It’s so sad considering that the two were still young and had kids to look after.
“Border’s death delayed both the burial time and service for his late friend since the body was in the same room with the coffin bearing his friend’s corpse.
“Residents are expected to gather at Border’ s house soon after laying Kelvin to rest,” said Cllr Shoko.
Kelvin was laid to rest at Glenville Cemetery yesterday.
