Two Harare women allegedly defrauded Mr Jadiel Matsikire of US$35 000 in an agreement of sale for a shop and two farms and were ready to take more money off him for other farms, none of which they allegedly possessed or were able to sell.

Nyasha Majijiwa and Hilda Tirivavi appeared before Harare Magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi and were remanded out of custody to December 5 on bail of $100 000 each.

Majijiwa will be reporting at Waterfalls Police Station twice a week and Tirivavi at Dzivarasekwa Police Station.

The court heard that in September, Mr Matsikire was called by Regina Chihwai who told him that there was someone selling farms in Banket, Mazowe and Marondera. He was referred to Majijiwa who confirmed that she had eight farms and a shop in Unit L, Chitungwiza, on sale.

Majijiwa then charged Mr Matsikire US$15 000 for the shop which was paid in full between September and this month.

He agreed to buy and was charged US$20 000 for two farms which Majijiwa claimed to have inherited from her late parents.

He paid US$4 500 to Majijiwa as well as handing over six 330W solar panels, a battery and inverter which were part of the payment of the farms.

The payment and electrical equipment was shared by Majijiwa and Tirivavi.

Agreements of sale in respect of two farms and the shop were made out and signed by Mr Matsikire and Majijiwa.

Majijiwa later took Mr Matsikire to Beatrice and Macheke where she showed him farms and promised that she was going to avail the offer letters after collecting them from Tirivavi who worked at the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development.

Last week, Mr Matsikire visited the farms in Beatrice to verify if they belonged to Majijiwa and was told that he had been defrauded.

He then demanded to be shown the shop he had already bought, but Majijiwa allegedly started giving numerous excuses and he discovered that he had been duped.

He then filed a report at ZRP Harare Central and investigations instituted by the police led to the arrest of Majijiwa who implicated Tirivavi as her accomplice. Majijiwa was also found in possession of a counterfeit identity card in the name of Samantha Banabus which she claimed she was assisted to obtain by Hilda Tirivavi and was used in the signing of the Agreements of Sale.
