Man earns two-and-a-half years for bar violence

A 26-YEAR-OLD Beitbridge man has been jailed for an effective two-and-a-half years for savagely attacking a rival suitor over a woman.

The man, who was charged for attempted murder, was convicted on assault charges by the Beitbridge Magistrate Court.

In a statement on Tuesday, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said the man was left with two-and-a-half years in jail when another two-and-a-half years of the five year’ term were set aside.

“The incident occurred on June 14 , around 3am outside a bar in Dulivhadzimu suburb,” said the NPAZ.

“The offender struck the 37 -year-old victim multiple times on the head with an empty beer bottle following a dispute over a woman inside the club.

“The victim, who was with a woman, gave her R50 to buy beer inside the bar and the offender engaged the lady in a conversation. The other man followed into the bar and he reclaimed his money”.

After reclaiming his money, the man was assaulted by the accused person with an empty beer bottle multiple times in the head.

He then fell unconscious and was assisted by other revellers.

The matter was reported to the police who swiftly arrested the accused person.
