A BULAWAYO man is lucky to be alive after he sustained severe burns after tampering with a Zesa transformer. Casper Siziba, 28, appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Tancy Dube charged with interfering with an apparatus meant for generating, distributing and supplying electricity. Prosecuting Frank Ncube said Siziba was badly injured due to the electric shock and had to be hospitalised.
“This man sustained severe burns and was hospitalised for weeks at United Bulawayo Hospitals,” he said.
The court heard that on May 9 during the afternoon, Siziba tampered with a transformer at Egumeni Butchery in Pumula South.
He attempted to switch off power resulting in an explosion which interrupted power supply and was burnt in the process.
Siziba who was not asked to plead told the court that he was lucky to be alive.
“I am happy to be alive after the encounter that I had that day. I feel pains and have complications but I am alive,” he said.
His case continues on Monday.
