A 63-YEAR-OLD man died early yesterday morning after falling from a room on the eighth floor of the Monomotapa hotel in central Harare.

Witnesses said the white man, who police say was not booked at the hotel, died instantly on impact with the ground.

Hotel management declined to comment and police are now investigating.

The man, whose identity is yet to be released, fell to his death at 8.30am.

A huge crowd gathered at the scene as police removed the body after paramedics pronounced him dead.

“I heard a loud thud and was shocked to find out that it was a man who had fallen from a hotel room. I initially thought it was an electrical explosion,” said a vendor who plies his trade near the hotel.

Circumstances leading to the incident are still unclear as police investigations continue. The identity of the man has also not been disclosed.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said:”A 63-year-old man jumped to death from a local hotel’s eighth floor.

“The deceased whose nationality is yet to be confirmed is a white man and he was not booked at the hotel.”
